Visitors to St. Therese often marvel at the passion and dedication of our staff and volunteers. After departing, visitors often ask this question: How does St. Therese sustain the incredible volunteer spirit found in parish life and school culture?
Membership in the St. Therese community offers a truly unique opportunity--forming relationships with mission-driven volunteers. We are blessed at our parish and school with a robust group of talented and passionate volunteers. Thanks to a strong culture of volunteerism, the cost for essential services offered to the Chinatown community remain low, while the quality of these services maintains itself at a very high level.
The taproot undergirding our flourishing volunteer programs at St. Therese is our community service program. This program begins in first grade and extends all the way to grandparents. St. Therese offers a myriad of interactive volunteer opportunities that not only contribute to the advancement of community and parish life, but offer practical ways for individuals to discover personal fulfillment. Whether it is raising money for global solidarity efforts or simply cleaning up after a community event, St. Therese strives to connect people to social justice through service. Whatsoever you do for the least of my children, that you do unto me. (Mt. 25: 40).
Weekly bulletins (both parish and school) disseminate volunteer opportunities. Service logs for both the younger children and older children document individual growth in the volunteer culture at St. Therese. For those who come to our school community already involved in a particular outside volunteer activity, pre-approval is required.
