Degrees and Certifications:
Our Music teacher and St. Therese Choir Director, Susie Lofton, has been with St. Therese teaching the after school Choir class since 2012, and was brought on full time in 2014 to round out the Music curriculum. In Ms. Lofton's career as a teacher, she has taught West African hand percussion, Acoustic guitar, and most notably, Choral and Solo Vocal training & performance in school programs throughout Chicagoland and the surrounding suburbs. Ms. Lofton was educated at the Olde town School of Folk Music, the College of DuPage in the Chorale Music program, and also received an Arts & Languages of Learning in Early Childhood Certification from Columbia College. She loves to spend her time listening to various musical genres, writing and recording original music, as well as performing with her folk band.
Fun Fact Trivia: For those Science Fiction fans, Ms. Lofton's brother Cirroc Lofton was a starring character on "Star Trek Deep Space Nine" as Jake Sisko.
St. Therese Choir is a talented vocal group comprised of students ranging from 3rd grade to 8th grade. The musical repertoire of the Choir consists mainly of traditional church hymns and some adult contemporary Christian pop selections that support strong Biblical messages. Some annual highlights of the St. Therese Choir performances have been Chicago Sinfonietta at Navy Pier, St. Therese Christmas Program, Christmas Caroling for Big Shoulders Fund, Chinatown Public Library, and the Chinese New Year Benefit Fundraiser.
