Release: Principal Cavallone Surprised with the Stanley C. Golder Leadership Award
Phyllis Cavallone, Principal of St. Therese Chinese Catholic School, was surprised today by the Golden Apple Foundation with its 2017 Stanley C. Golder Award for Excellence in Leadership. Golden Apple is a leading nonprofit committed to celebrating and developing great teachers and school leaders. CBS Chicago Anchor Rob Johnson greeted Ms. Cavallone at the door to surprise her with the highly prestigious educator award. The crowd of supporters, including the students, staff, Cardinal Blase Cupich, and many other supporters cheered and celebrated as Ms. Cavallone made her way to the stage to receive her award.
Golden Apple recipients are nominated by their students, community members/parents and colleagues. This is the fourth year the Golder award has been given to a school leader. Ms. Cavallone was a finalist for the same award in 2015.

Ms. Cavallone will receive $10,000 for her own professional development and a school project of her choosing. Ms. Cavallone, along with other award winners, will be honored at a 2017 Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Leadership ceremony on May 20, which will be televised on WTTW/Channel 11. This dynamic program will highlight the incredible work of award winners. The event will be streamed live, including recorded interviews with former students and guests of the award recipients.
